The 4evergreen alliance from Brussels visited Koehler Paper in Kehl last May. As part of a team outing, representatives of the European Packaging Initiative travelled to the site to get to know the production of Koehler paper on site.
The focus of the visit was a tour of Production Line 8 – one of the most modern paper and coating machines in Europe for the production of flexible packaging paper. The plant is considered to be technologically unique and plays a central role in the further development of recyclable packaging solutions, as sought by the 4evergreen alliance.
4evergreen and Koehler Paper with a common goal
The 4evergreen alliance features over 100 companies along the entire lifecycle of fiber-based packaging – including global players, such as Amazon, UPM, Voith, DOW, Henkel, Procter & Gamble, Ikea, Palm, and Elopak. Koehler Paper has been a member of the alliance since 2020 and is actively involved in various working groups. The alliance's goal is to increase the recycling rate of fiber-based packaging in Europe to 90 percent by 2030.
"With our NexFlex® brand paper, we are one of the pioneers in flexible packaging paper that are specially designed for recyclability and recycling. In this way, we are making an active contribution to achieving the ambitious goal of the 4evergreen alliance," says Jens Kriete, Sustainability Manager of the Koehler Group. "We are all the more pleased that we were able to welcome some representatives from Brussels in person to Kehl."
The feedback from the interested guests, including program director Susanne Haase, was consistently positive – the delegation from Brussels was particularly impressed by the combination of efficiency, sustainability, and quality.
