“pack it in paper” Resumes German Tour

Koehler Paper Shows That Recyclable Paper Packaging Is the Right Choice for New PPWR Requirements

28.08.2026

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) came into effect on August 12th, making alternatives to plastic packaging more vital than ever before for the commercial and industrial sectors. It is also a great reason for Koehler Paper to resume its roadshow for paper-based packaging after what proved to be a very successful kick-off in the summer.

Koehler Paper Shows That Recyclable Paper Packaging Is the Right Choice for New PPWR Requirements

In this second tour leg, the flexible packaging paper manufacturer will be visiting brand-name manufacturers, food manufacturers, and commercial businesses once again, but in the west, northwest, and north of Germany this time around. The trek will be ambitious, with a total of more than 2,000 kilometers and eleven additional stops in a schedule that will start in the German town of Gernsbach, in the state of Baden-Württemberg.

“Circular packaging has been anything but a niche topic for quite a while now. In fact, it’s more relevant than ever before. That’s why we’re going on this tour – so that we can show how paper can already do countless things that only plastic could do before. That goes from protecting products, to extensive compatibility with existing machinery, to boosting brand identity,” explains Koehler Group CSO Philipp Prechtl. And with companies looking for circular packaging solutions due to the requirements set forth in the PPWR, the roadshow could not have come at a better time. Among other things, it will include concrete applications that show that paper-based alternatives are already available and ready for use today.

A larger-than-life sized cat with an origami design is both the central mascot and theme of this “pack it in paper” campaign, not to mention the star of the tour. With its proverbial many lives, it serves as a powerful eye-catching symbol of just how incredibly recyclable and continuously reusable paper fibers are, and will be making a total of eleven stops during the tour’s second leg: One at the Papierzentrum Paper Center in Gernsbach and the rest in Polch, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Viersen, Hanover, Bremen, Hamburg, Elmshorn, Berlin, and Greiz. With the slogan “pack it in paper,” Koehler Paper will take advantage of these stops in to bring attention to the crucial advantages of paper-based packaging materials.

The Circle Will Close in Greiz

The roadshow will come full circle at the end of its second leg: The origami cat will be symbolically recycled at the Koehler Paper mill in Greiz – right where wastepaper is made into premium recycled paper with 100% secondary fibers. “This recycling will symbolize the rebirth of our cat and of the underlying paper, which can then start its journey all over again,” Philipp Prechtl says while explaining the tour’s grand finale.

On the move, digitally and analog

The tour will once again be backed up by a highly entertaining infotainment series, which Koehler Paper will be publishing on LinkedIn and on its pack it in paper website. The series will be focusing on a separate topic at each stop, making it possible to visually experience just how multifaceted modern packaging paper is.
