The EUDR is coming. Koehler Paper is ready.

With the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the European Union is setting new standards for sustainable and transparent supply chains. The regulation aims to ensure that certain commodities and products, including paper made from virgin fibers, are not linked to deforestation or illegal forest exploitation.

Koehler Paper has already integrated the key requirements of the EUDR into its processes and is well prepared for implementation. Customer supply remains secure, and no additional administrative burden is expected.

Responsibility and Transparency as Established Practice

The EUDR primarily affects paper products made from wood-based virgin fibers. In the future, companies will be required to demonstrate that the raw materials they use originate from legal and deforestation-free sources. For Koehler Paper, however, many of these requirements are already standard practice.

Sustainable sourcing has been an integral part of the company’s strategy for decades. Koehler Paper has been PEFC- and FSC®-certified for more than 20 years and has successfully implemented the requirements of the European Timber Regulation (EUTR), the predecessor to the EUDR, for over twelve years. The company has successfully completed three audits conducted by Germany’s Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE), with no non-conformities identified.

In addition, 100% of the virgin fibers used by Koehler Paper originate from sustainably managed forests and controlled sources.

No Additional Effort for Customers

A key concern for many companies is how the EUDR will affect their own processes. The good news is that Koehler Paper customers will not be required to register in additional systems or manage complex documentation obligations.

Koehler Paper assumes responsibility for the necessary EUDR-related processes within the supply chain and ensures that all relevant information and evidence are handled in compliance with regulatory requirements. The management of the required reference numbers is also carried out within the supply chain and the EU information system.

This allows customers to remain focused on their core business while Koehler Paper professionally manages the regulatory requirements.
